Laptop Configuration

Printer Setup for Vista

Printers are located in the following areas of the SMG building:
Open Access Labs (rooms 328 & 340);
The Graduate Resource Center (room 316)

There are a total of four SMG free quota printers located in the Open Access Labs and a fifth free quota printer located in the Graduate Resource Center (available to GSM students only). You should install multiple printers so that you will have the option of printing to alternate printers if select printers are temporarily inoperable or in high use.

Note: You must be a registered student of SMG in order to use the free quota printers.

The SMG Pay Printers are located in rooms 328 & 340.

(Faculty and staff, please contact the ITS Helpdesk for assistance connecting to department printers.)

This process MUST be performed while connected to the SMG Active Directory (AD) Network.
Be sure you have already followed Steps One and Two to configure your laptop for the AD.

1. Download and run smglogon. Logon using your BU username and Kerberos password.
2. Download and extract the Kyocera Mita FS-9520DN driver onto your Desktop.
3. Go to the Control Panel.
4. Select Printers and choose Add Printer.
5. Choose Add a local printer.

   

6. Choose Create a new port and make sure that the type of port is Local Port.

   

7. Click Next.
8. A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port name. Type in the port name (select from below) corresponding to the printer that you would like to install.
   1. FREEQUOTA 1: \\smgfreequota\freequota1
   2. FREEQUOTA 2: \\smgfreequota\freequota2
   3. FREEQUOTA 3: \\smgfreequota\freequota3
   4. FREEQUOTA 4: \\smgfreequota\freequota4
   5. FREEQUOTA 5: \\smgfreequota\freequota5
   6. SMGPAY: \\smgpayquota\smgpay
   7. SMGPAYCOLOR: \\smgpayquota\paycolor

      

9. Click OK
10. For freequota printers, select Have Disk, and when the following dialogue box opens, select Browse to navigate to where you have downloaded the Kyocera drivers. Select the Kyocera driver file and click OK and Next to install the printer driver.

    

    

11. For SMGPAY, select HP as the manufacturer and HP LaserJet 8100PS as the model in the driver selection window.
12. For SMGPAYCOLOR, select HP as the manufacturer and HP Color Jet 4700 as the model in the driver selection window.
13. The table below summarizes the manufacturer and model for each printer.

14. After you have selected a manufacturer and a model, click Next.
15. When prompted, type a Printer name. You may set the printer as the default printer by checking the box below the printer name, if you choose.

    

16. Click Next.
17. You will see a confirmation page like the one below. You may print a test page to make sure that the printer has been successfully installed.

    

18. Click Finish to complete the installation.
