FAQ AnswersOpen Access Labs:When are they open?
Fully registered SMG and GSM students are given a 100 dollar (1000 pages) Free Quota allotment at the start of each Fall semester for use through the spring and summer months. All other black and white printing is 10 cents per page; color printing is $1.00 per page. The labs accept cash and Terrier Card 'convenience points'. Students whose college is not SMG or GSM must pay for printing in the SMG labs. However, all BU students have a free print quota account for use in OIT's computer labs (111 Cummington Street). Print jobs cannot be sent between SMG and OIT labs. Faculty and Staff are not given quotas, but can have their printing paid for with a departmental transfer of funds form. Contact helpdesk@managment.bu.edu for more details. What does the lab sell?
The labs accept cash and Terrier Card 'convenience points' only.
Teaching LabHow can I reserve the teaching lab?Faculty or Staff can reserve the teaching lab by filling out a Teaching Lab Reservation Form and submitting it to the Computer Lab Supervisor. The form is available in PDF format. Does it cost anything to reserve the teaching lab? For SMG or GSM functions, no. There is a half-charge for reservations made by other schools of Boston University (billed to the appropriate department), and a full charge for external clients. Special technical support needs may result in additional charges. For more details and a complete list of fees, see page 2 of the Teaching Lab Reservation Form. How many computers are in the teaching lab? There are 30 computers for attendees and 1 podium computer for the instructor (total 31). What software is available on the teaching lab computers?
Yes, but you must supply the software and the 31 licenses. Installation is subject to ITS approval. Further, we need to be given sufficient advance notice (at least 2 weeks). During this time we will review the software, test it and then install it on all the machines. This is to both insure proper installation of the software and to avoid possible conflicts with existing software on the machines.
Graduate Resource CenterWhen is it open?According to building hours:
Note that the GRC is open to students taking GSM courses only and a valid BU Terrier Card is needed for card-swipe access. What software is available? The same as in the Open Access labs, plus special software requested by GSM faculty. A Special Software List is posted in the GRC along with the number of the workstation where the software is installed. Where can I make copies and faxes? Self-service copy and fax machines are located in the GRC. Maintenance information is posted directly above the respective machines. Didn't find the answer to your question? You can contact the ITS Helpdesk by emailing helpdesk@management.bu.eduor calling 617-353-9858. |
